My career in the cultural sector has begun at the Grand Mosque of Kuwait, in 2008 as a tour guide, where I worked with different age groups of audience, taking them on a tour to explore the design and architecture of the place. I became increasingly interested in social engagement and the sense of the space.
In 2011 I started a personal research project for Kuwait’s museums and galleries to understand their role and practices in society. Then in 2013, I embarked on an academic project, starting with MA in Museums, Galleries and Contemporary Culture at the University of Westminster, London, where my dissertation examined the written texts in a number of Kuwait’s museums and their impact on visitor’s experience. Followed by a PhD at Brunel University London, where I completed my research in 2021 which examined the social, educational and spatial roles of the Kuwait National Museum.
During my study, I involved on a number of volunteering roles in museums in order to combine the understanding gained from my research with experience as a museum practitioner to influence my consultancy work.
In 2021 I worked to establish an ICOM National Committee in Kuwait where I collaborated with the Kuwait Heritage Society to register the members, prepare the statutes, got the approval to activate the national committee and was elected as the first Chair of ICOM Kuwait. Following that, I was also elected as a board member for the ICOM Arab during the ICOM general conference in Prague in 2022.
